Phonological Awareness FUN! Pk-1

November 12, 2019
Join us to learn about the Phonological Awareness continuum and its importance in early literacy development. Each step of the continuum will be explored with research and fun activities to support student learning in a high quality classroom. Participants will leave with ready-to-use activities and knowledge on how to move students from playing with sounds to connecting them to letters for beginning reading and writing. REGISTER
 
 

Balanced Literacy Approach in the ESL Prekindergarten Classroom

November 21, 2019
A balanced literacy approach focuses on a variety of authentic reading and writing experiences. This session will include developmentally appropriate activities that target early literacy skills of English Learners (EL) prekindergarten students. All literacy components of the balanced literacy approach will be discussed during this session. Participants will create procedures that meet the individual needs of their students in a fun hands-on experience that will support immediate, intentional and relevant implementation of literacy activities. The training will include mentor texts and materials for interactive read-aloud and shared reading. Space is limited. RECESS Grant Initiative 1 will cover enrollment fees and materials. Growing Successful Young Writers PK-2

Have you ever wondered how to create a classroom that fosters the development of young writers? PK-2 educators will learn how to guide students through the stages of writing development to create successful writers. Participants will also gain knowledge about how to develop fine motor and gross motor skills to promote proper pencil grip and body strength for legible writing and stamina. REGISTER

 
 

Using Data to Engage Parents - Sharing Resources with Families to Improve Student Outcomes in Pre-Kindergarten

Going Beyond the Home Center in Dramatic Play - Maximizing Dramatic Play

January 17, 2020

There are so many benefits associated to dramatic play in the early grades besides social-emotional development. Join us for a day of discovery and planning to maximize the use of the dramatic center in your classroom. In this training participants will learn how to plan dramatic play to reinforce content and language objectives. Attendees will receive resources for the dramatic center to utilize in different units of study throughout the year. Session materials and fees are covered by grant funds. REGISTER

Reading Roundup: Activities for Early Literacy Development PK/K
Using picture books in your classroom is a great way to encourage vocabulary development, phonological awareness, letter knowledge, listening comprehension, and other early literacy concepts. Participants of this session will participate in mini lessons to develop early literacy concepts. They will leave with activities and manipulatives that they can use right away in their classrooms to foster student success. REGISTER
 
 

Emergent Reading Small Group Activities Make and Take

March 26, 2020
In this session participants will explore various small group activities for developing emergent reading skills. We will discuss the components of effective small group instruction and identify ways to differentiate lessons based on student need. The small group lessons cover skills such as phonological awareness, language development, and letter knowledge. Attendees will leave with ready-made activities and materials to immediately use in their classrooms. REGISTER
