ELEMENTARY

Math That Sticks: Number Talks in the Elementary Classroom

Are you wondering how to build students' numerical fluency in 5 to 15 minutes a day? Are you wondering about how to choose skill-based problems that work together to build numerical fluency? Join us as we explore key components of number-focused conversations, create sequences of skill-based problems, and practice implementation techniques.

Focus on Representing and Solving with Addition and Subtraction
Grades 2-3
Wondering how to lead students to mastery when representing and solving problems with whole number addition and subtraction? Curious about how to integrate questioning, representing, and solving when solving word problems? Engage with word problem structures that help students see mathematical connections and relationships. Practice representing and solving word problems through the eyes of students to uncover understandings that are still developing. Leave with classroom-ready activities designed to support transfer and to lead to mastery.

Focus On Developing Fluency with Rational Numbers
Grades 5-7
Explore the use of models and instructional methods to develop students’ conceptual understanding of operations with rational numbers. Participate in activities incorporating research-based approaches that build and deepen knowledge of identified learning targets, including supports for diverse learners.

Small-Group Instruction and Workstations: Number and Operations

Grades 2-5
Learn how to incorporate teacher-led small-group tasks and student-centered workstations to support student mastery of the TEKS. Experience classroom-ready activities that promote student understanding of number and operations.
