Intervention Requirements for Campuses Identified for Interventions Through the 2014 State Accountability System and the USDE ESEA Waiver

On August 26, the Texas Center for District and School Support (TCDSS) released correspondence to provide information regarding the technical assistance provided by TCDSS to district, campuses, and charter schools that have been identified as Improvement Required (IR) under Texas Education Code (TEC) §39 and/or Priority due to the USDE ESEA flexibility waiver.

TCDSS works with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the twenty regional education service centers (ESCs) to provide statewide technical assistance.  Key information from the correspondence follows.

Intervention activities are required if the district, campus, or charter school:

  • Received a rating of IR due to failing to meet the target on one or more of the performance indexes; or
  • Failed to meet the performance target for one or more system safeguards.
Campuses are also required to engage in the Texas Accountability Intervention System (TAIS) continuous improvement process if the campus is identified as:
  • Formerly Improvement Required (FIR) due to receiving and IR rating in 2013 and receiving a rating of Met Standard or Met Alternative Standard in 2014; or
  • A Priority school or Focus school under the USDE flexibility waiver.
