Title III, Part A – English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement Act
What is Title III, Part A?
Title III-A funds are to implement educational programs for language instruction that is based on scientific research. Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are responsible for meeting Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives (AMAOs) established for English Language Learners (ELLs), making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), and annually measuring the English proficiency of ELLs by administering the State Board of Education approved Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System
What is the purpose of Title III, Part A
Title III, Part A ensures that English Language Learners (ELLs) and/or immigrant students Kindergarten through 12th Grade
- attain English proficiency;
- meet the same challenging state academic standards that all children are expected to meet; and
- promote parent and community participation in Bilingual/English as a Second Language (ESL) education programs for Limited English Proficient (LEP) children.
Districts and Charters may join the Title III SSA through the eGrants process.
