ESL/Bilingual Conference

2016 Region 4 Bilingual/ESL Conference

Join fellow educators at the 2016 Region 4 Bilingual/ESL Conference, and learn techniques and strategies to directly impact the academic success of English Language Learners (ELLs). Session topics will address dual language, transitioning from L1 to L2, sheltered instruction, assessment, and technology.


Guests will be able to create their own conference experience by choosing one keynote and breakout sessions, or two keynote sessions, or only breakout sessions for the day. Lunch will be provided for all preregistered guests. For more information, e-mail

Keynote Speakers


meredith-alvaroMeredith Alvaro is currently a full time National Literacy Consultant and Professional Staff Developer located in the NY/NJ metro area. Meredith previously served as the Director of Student Teaching in the Elementary Inclusive Preservice Program at Teachers College Columbia University as well as held a tenured NYC public school teacher position in Manhattan’s former District 2. She is dually certified in Special Education as well as General Education and has worked extensively with English Language Learners and students with a range of significant disabilities. For the past 15 years, Meredith has traveled the country supporting teachers of English language learners across a range of settings including Bilingual, ESL/ELL, and Dual Language programs. 




enid-martinezEnid Martinez is a literacy consultant working with educators across the nation and the world to strengthen reading and writing instruction. Enid works with school districts and individual schools to provide professional development in analyzing and using their student data and standards to develop curriculum in reading and writing while also working on methods of teaching. Enid teaches institutes, conducts workshops and provides on-site professional development at schools across the country and internationally. Leading workshops, providing on-site professional development and teaching at beginning and advanced institutes across the country in both English and Spanish are just a part of what Enid brings to the educational community.
