TEA Announces Intent to Award Student Assessment Program Contract
On Monday, May 18, 2015, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced the intent to award the Student Assessment Program contact. The Request for Proposals (RFP) was designed so that companies could bid on different facets of the assessment program.
Based on the proposals, two entities are expected to be awarded contracts. Pearson, the current provider of all assessments, was awarded the STAAR Alternate 2, TELPAS, and TAKS portions of the program. ETS (Educational Testing Service), who also administers the Graduate Record Exam, etc.), was awarded the bulk of the contract. ETS will be responsible for the Integration of the entire program, as well as the STAAR 3-8 and STAAR EOC programs.
It is expected that contract negotiations will be completed within 30 days of the announcement. The new contract goes into effect September 1, 2015 and runs through August 31, 2019.
